How do I get into training?
You can send an email to Lee McKay at mckay.lee@gmail.com to check on up coming trainings in your area or to schedule training for your group.

How much does it cost?
The actual cost varies based on the amount of cost being covered by the sponsoring organization. The Committee charges $50 for the Participants Notebook. The trainer cost is $1,500. Sponsoring organizations may include meals or host the training at a retreat site. If so, the costs may be all or partially paid by the participants.

How many hours is the training?
Level I training is 16 hours. It is usually done over a weekend, but can be done over a number of evenings or two Saturdays.
Level II is 19 hours. It usually begins Friday evening and goes to Sunday late afternoon. The other options are the same.
NVP also offers customized trainings on specific topics that are 1.5 hours and up.

Do you offer college credit?
It is up to the sponsoring group to arrange for college credit. We have offered college credit for Level I and Level II trainings in California.

Do you offer it in Spanish or other languages?
We offer bilingual Spanish/English trainings. We are in the process of translating the Participants Manual into Spanish.

Can I buy the materials without taking the training?
No, the manuals are training specific. The material would not be very useful to someone who had not gone through the training.

How do I become a trainer?
Non Violence in the Lives of Children is always excited to expand our training team. You must complete Level I and II trainings and participate in the one-year internship to become a trainer.

Can I do just part of the training?
The trainings are designed to follow a sequence. We do not allow participants to attend only part of a Level I or II training. If there are specific topics that you or your group is interested in, we can create a customized training of as little as 1.5 hours.

Can I take level two before level one?
Level II is based on the learning from level I. It is necessary to have the knowledge to fully participate in Level II.

Is this appropriate for parents?
Yes, parents will gain immeasurably from both the Level I and II training as well making our customized trainings specifically related to parent issues.

I teach high school, will this training be appropriate for me?
Yes, if your organization would like to sponsor a Level I and Level II training for secondary educators we can customize it for you. You are welcome to attend any training in you area. Note that most of the participants will be early childhood and elementary educators, so those will be the issues that will be used to illustrate the principals of our work.

Do I have to be a teacher to attend?
NO, we are very interested in the participation of families and community members. We can even customize training for specific groups.

What will I learn?
Please refer to Trainings. If you have more specific questions send them to Wilma Gold at whgold@ucsc.edu.

Can you help me network with other people in my area?
We would be happy to give your contact information to others in you area who have participated in NVP Trainings.

Can I use NVP materials to teach courses on seminars?
Not without permission. The contents of the manuals are copy written and the property of NonViolence in the Lives of Children. Those who have completed the training may secure permission before reprinting any materials contained in the notebook.
